Masjid Al-Taneem is a mosque in the area of Al-Hil, about 8 kilometres away from the Kaaba, in the neighbourhood of At-Tan'im in Makkah, western Saudi Arabia. It is a boundary of the Ḥaram, therefore pilgrims of Ḥajj and ʿUmrah can put on Iḥram. This mosque is also known as Masjid ʿĀʾishah since Aisha bint Abu Bakr, wife of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, had put on her Ihram from this place once. This is quite a big mosque with facilities for baths, ablution and changing, available for pilgrims and those who come to offer regular prayers.
A pilgrim can begin the journey of Umrah from Masjid Ayesha by entering into the state of Ihram (the intention of performing the Umrah). Ihram must begin before crossing the Miqat; if it is crossed without entering into the state of Ihram, pilgrims are fined although their Hajj or Umrah journey will not be called invalid.
Ihram is the sacred state one has to enter while performing the pilgrimage of Umrah and Hajj. Muslims have to change in Ihram clothes at one of the specified Miqat depending upon the course of one’s travel. Masjid Ayesha serves as a Miqat for people in Makkah for the holy pilgrimage of Umrah and Hajj. Also, Muslims looking to perform Umrah twice on the same journey should head out of Masjid Al-Haram and renew Ihram in Masjid Ayesha before the second Umrah.
