Najd or Najd Highlands is the region in the center of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where the capital, Riyadh, is located. Its borders extend from the Hail Mountains to the north to the Empty Quarter to the south, and from the Nafud desert to the east to the Hijaz Mountains to the west. It was a fertile land rich in pastures, wild birds and animals, many oases and palm plantations.
