The Saudi Al-Watan newspaper is issued by the Aseer Press and Publishing Corporation, for which the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz laid its foundation stone in the city of Abha on May 8, 1998. His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz inaugurated the Foundation's building and printing center on July 7, 2000. Whereas, His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz launched the first issue on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Chairman of the Supreme Media Council at the time, His Royal Highness Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz on the 30th of September 2000. Al-Watan newspaper is the first local daily newspaper based on an integrated scientific study, and the first newspaper in the Arab region for which a previous scientific study and a comprehensive study were developed by 40 researchers.
