E-passports will be issued to non-resident Indians in Saudi Arabia from October 15. The 36-page digital passports have a chip embedded in them. They are valid for ten years. E-passports are currently available in over 150 countries. Applications for digital passports can be submitted on the official Passport Seva website. The official launch of the e-passports will take place this afternoon.
The distribution of e-passport will be launched by Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri, Consul General of the Indian Consulate in Jeddah. Digital passports will also help in facilitating the e-gate system for travelers at various airports around the world.
An electronic passport is a modern passport with a chip embedded in it. All personal information such as name, address, date of birth, and photo will be stored on this chip. Apart from this, the e-passport will also contain biometric details such as fingerprints and iris scans.
This chip will be scanned every time you go through immigration checks at the airport. This will make the immigration clearance process easier and safer.
India's chip passport uses matrix and radio-frequency identification. This will prevent unauthorized data transfer from the chip.
