
In collaboration with the Jeddah Transport Company (JEDTC) and the Saudi Public Transport Company (SAPTCO), the Jeddah Mayoralty established a new and enlarged public transportation bus network that includes 14 major routes that travel north, south, east, and west of Jeddah.
The new fleet of public transportation buses was inaugurated on Wednesday by Saleh Al-Turki, the mayor of Jeddah and chairman of the Jeddah Transport Company's board of directors. The inauguration was conducted in front of a number of officials during a formal ceremony at the JEDTC headquarters.
Eng. Youssef Alsayegh, CEO of JEDTC, gave a presentation during the ceremony outlining the new phase and key aspects of the project. This involves operating 91 contemporary buses, including 88 buses with an eco-friendly diesel engine (Euro 5 standard) that can carry 41 seated and 50 standing passengers, as well as three electric buses that can carry 34 sat and 38 standing passengers. Every bus has unique accommodations for those with impairments.
According to him, the new buses, which are produced by one of the top bus manufacturers in the world, are quite comfortable and technologically advanced.Features include 14 internal and external surveillance cameras, internal screens that show routes, USB ports for charging mobile devices, and a GPS tracking system that is connected to an operational control panel to improve safety and operational efficiency.
