In anticipation of the Hajj season, which starts on Wednesday when pilgrims travel to Mina to celebrate the Day of Tarwiyah, the Mashaer Metro Train made its inaugural journey on Tuesday morning. During the Hajj season, the train will make 2,000 runs to carry two million pilgrims.
The Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has declared the Mashaer Train is operationally ready for the Hajj season, in keeping with the Kingdom's efforts to improve transportation systems and service quality throughout the Hajj season and as part of its national duty in supporting pilgrims.
The Mashaer Train is a unique transportation system in the world, operating on five different service patterns that are suited to various Hajj rites. The train is expected to operate within those five operational patterns during the Hajj season with great efficiency and accuracy. The train improves pilgrims' safety and ease of travel by connecting nine stations throughout the sacred sites of Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina. The last station in Mina is situated on the fourth floor of the Jamarat Bridge.
The Mashaer Train is among the most impressive sustainable transportation initiatives in the area. Over 72,000 passengers can be transported per hour thanks to its fleet of 17 trains, each of which can carry 3,000 passengers. This makes travel smart, safe, and eco-friendly while also reducing carbon emissions and traffic at the sacred places.
