Two Red Sea Global resorts have become the first in the world to receive the new DarkSky Approved Resort certification, recognising hospitality destinations that reduce light pollution, protect biodiversity and preserve natural night skies. The certification was launched in partnership with DarkSky International to promote sustainable, regenerative tourism.
The certification comes amid growing global interest in astrotourism and efforts to reduce light pollution. DarkSky International said the new standard was created to better address the operational needs of large-scale resorts.
Resorts must meet strict standards for preserving dark skies and using responsible outdoor lighting to earn the certification. Red Sea Global plans to extend the standard across its growing portfolio in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
