Saudi Arabia implements the midday break law

Saudi Arabia has implemented the midday break law as the country is experiencing extreme summer heat. Workers are not permitted to work in open spaces between twelve and three o'clock. The prohibition will last until September 15th, which is three months from now. Businesses must also provide spaces for employees to relax during this period. Institutions and businesses that break the law will be fined.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development have made the decision. Jobs involving outdoor labor where employees are exposed to direct sunlight will be prohibited. Only work that is urgent will be excused. This requires obtaining prior ministry approval. Additionally, organizations should make sure that people who must operate in situations that cannot be avoided are shielded from the sun. Businesses who break the law face fines equal to the wages of each employee.
