Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet approved new regulations that govern the railways in the Kingdom

Tuesday saw the approval of new railway regulations in the Kingdom by the Cabinet of Saudi Arabia. Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al-Jasser stated that the decision "supports achieving the goals of the National Transport & Logistics Strategy, and contributes to the governance of the railway sector and regulates the relationship between the infrastructure owner, the operator, and the beneficiary."

The minister said, "The new regulations will guarantee railway service providers maintain the strictest safety and quality standards and requirements, and will create policies and laws that guarantee fair competition."

According to Al-Jasser, rules will guarantee the preservation of railroads, their facilities, and infrastructure in compliance with globally recognised standards, as well as promote their usage. In order to prevent infractions and network damage to railway lines, the new law also established sanctions.

The minister expressed gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and King Salman for their approval of the new law.
