Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs has instructed mosque imams to remind worshippers to respond promptly to the call to prayer and avoid reserving spots inside mosques.
In a circular to mosques across the Kingdom, the ministry stressed that prayer spaces belong to those who arrive first and directed imams to remove prayer mats or personal items used to hold places, particularly in the front rows.
It described the practice as unfair to early worshippers and contrary to Islamic teachings, as it disrupts the orderly completion of rows. Imams were urged to handle the matter wisely while ensuring reserved spots are cleared.
