Saudi Rail passengers hit 36.5M in Q2 2025

According to data issued Thursday by the Transport General Authority (TGA), the number of passengers utilizing train services in Saudi Arabia increased by 1 million from the first quarter of 2025 to over 36.5 million in the second quarter.

With more than 33.8 million passengers utilizing metro systems throughout the Kingdom, urban rail services experienced significant growth.

Riyadh Metro topped the statistics with over 23.6 million passengers carried.

More than 512,000 individuals rode the campus rail at Princess Nourah University in Riyadh, while more than 7.76 million people used the automated people mover at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Over 2.67 million people used intercity trains to travel between Saudi cities during that time, representing a 10% increase in intercity train services year over year.

Over 4.08 million tons of goods and over 232,000 containers were shipped, demonstrating the railway network's critical role in supporting the mining and industrial sectors as part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. Rail freight and minerals transportation continued to be a major contributor to economic logistics.
