Smart counting systems using sensors and real-time monitoring have improved crowd management at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, tracking visitor movement at gates and corridors.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, the technology enhances pilgrims’ safety and worship experience by enabling field teams to respond quickly to changes in crowd density and guide visitors evenly across levels, courtyards, and corridors.
The systems also allow early detection of high-density areas, helping prevent congestion and maintain comfort. The authority said adopting these technologies is part of ongoing efforts to improve services and pilgrims’ overall experience.
