The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) and the Ministry of Sports declared on Thursday that social insurance coverage for Saudi coaches and athletes will formally begin on Tuesday, July 1. Saudi nationals who work as full-time coaches and athletes for clubs within or outside the Kingdom are eligible for unemployment insurance and pension benefits under the Social Insurance Law of Saudi Arabia.
All athletes and coaches working for sports organizations and federations are subject to the rule. Both the unemployment insurance and pension branches of the system are covered by the policy, which also includes provisions for retroactive pension coverage application, pending approval by the appropriate GOSI body, and financial penalties for late registration.
The action is intended to improve Saudi sports professionals' long-term social security, which includes retirement benefits and assistance in the event of job loss. Several workshops have been conducted by the Ministry of Sports and GOSI to inform clubs and federations about the advantages of the system and the registration process.
