The Royal Commission for AlUla has introduced fines for dune-bashing and reckless driving on vegetated land, highlighting the importance of protecting the governorate’s fragile environment.
The commission said damaging vegetation with vehicles is strictly prohibited, as it threatens ecological balance. Spokesperson Abdulrahman Al-Trairi urged residents and visitors to avoid harmful driving practices and support environmental sustainability.
Under the new rules, fines start at SR500 for a first violation, increase to SR1,000 for a second, and reach SR2,000 for repeated offences. The measures are part of broader efforts to safeguard AlUla’s natural and cultural heritage.
The commission noted that vegetated areas are vital for soil protection, preventing desertification and supporting biodiversity. It called on the public to use designated camping areas, follow environmental regulations and share responsibility for conservation in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals.
