Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani witnessed the signing of an agreement to launch a high-speed electric rail project connecting Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Signed by the transport ministers of both nations during the Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council meetings, the project reflects a major step in strengthening cooperation and sustainable development.
The 785 km line will link Riyadh and Doha via Al-Hofuf and Dammam and connect King Salman International Airport with Hamad International Airport. Operating at over 300 km/h, it will reduce travel time to about two hours. The railway is expected to serve more than 10 million passengers annually, create over 30,000 jobs, and contribute around SR115 billion to the combined GDP.
Set for completion in six years, it will follow global standards, enhance GCC connectivity, support environmental sustainability, reduce emissions, and promote efficient, smart mobility in the region.
